After watching this documentary (and reading to at least the chapter titled “The Terror”) post a comment describing which moment in the novel, House of the Spirits, reminds you of these historical events.

Allende writes that “the military had seized power to keep it for themselves and not to hand the country over to the politicians of the right who had made the coup possible” (389). I think its ironic that Trueba’s efforts and hubris actually had the effect of radicalizing his granddaughter and losing his country to a dictator.
Also, there was mention of “The Poet,” who is most likely the great poet Pablo Neruda.

the beginning where the plans crash into the building reminded me of chapter 13 “the terror” when the plan bombed the building while jamie was still in it along with the president. also the part in the video referring to the russians reminded me of page 341 “the conspiracy” and the ending around 54:27 reminded me of “the terror” when Senator Trueba regained Tres Marias
